When the world shut down three years ago, the Ad Council galvanized the advertising, marketing, media, and tech industries with messages of hope. But as always, the Ad Council put messaging into concrete action.
At a time when “media bubbles” persist and traditional notions of reliable information were tested like never before, the Ad Council crafted communications across global, national, and local government institutions to provide clarity about Covid-19 health and prevention measures.
The Ad Council also worked to shine a light on how minority communities were hit particularly hard by the pandemic while also being under-resourced. Those initiatives weren’t new to the organization. The Ad Council has shown how the business of communications can be used to educate and uplift for over 80 years.
So it was a particular honor for me to be selected to serve on the organization’s Leadership Council last week. I was invited to Washington, DC to take part in a leadership retreat hosted by the Ad Council.
I look forward to working with the Ad Council leadership and my industry peers to develop a more active presence in emerging technology & media — as both are critical communications channels for future generations.
From mental health/wellness to sustainability to diversity to gun violence prevention, the Ad Council has served as the industry’s conscience and its collective voice.
I want to extend my deep appreciation to the organization’s executive team of Lisa Sherman, Laurie Keith, Rocco Pallatto, Barbara Leshinsky for asking me to join the Leadership Council. I’m proud to put my passion to work with the most creative minds in advertising, media, technology and marketing to raise the level of dialogue, shape insights, and spur action on the issues facing all of us.
There is no better platform to tackle our collective challenges than the Ad Council. My trip to DC this past week also gave me the opportunity to reflect on the state of emerging tech and its often untapped potential to do public good.
